Understanding Wrought and Cast Aluminum Alloy Designations

The wrought alloy designation system consists of four numerical digits, sometimes preceded by a capital letter as indicated in Chapter 2. The first digit indicates the principal alloying elements, as described in this chapter in the section Â Principal Alloying ElementsÂ and Table 1; the second digit is the variation of that alloy; and the last two digits represent the specific alloy designation.
